The truth about gay and lesbian parenting

…there is no evidence to suggest that lesbians and gay men are unfit to be parents or that psychosocial development among children of gay men or lesbians is compromised in any respect relative to that among offspring of heterosexual parents. Not a single study has found children of gay or lesbian parents to be disadvantaged in any significant respect relative to children of heterosexual parents. Indeed, the evidence to date suggests that home environments provided by gay and lesbian parents are as likely as those provided by heterosexual parents to support and enable children's psychosocial growth."

An Open Letter to Dr. Laura A few years ago, a "letter," purported to have been sent to radio talk show host and physiologist Dr. Laura Schlessinger, began making the e-mail rounds. (It has since shown up addressed to Pres. Bush, Pat Robertson, etc.) Dr. Laura had earned a degree of infamy by claiming that homosexuals were "a mistake of nature." As with most right-wing homophobes, her frequent anti-gay tirades relied upon biblical quotations, taken out of context, to make her case. This is one of several versions of the letter that have appeared in various places. The identity of the original author is not known, nor is it known if the letter had ever actually been sent to Dr. L. Whatever the case, it is an excellant rebuttle to those who insist on using the bible as justification for their bigotry.
