Usage and Jargon
While I do not agree with the analysis in every instance, The Edna McConnell Clark Foundation has a useful section on their site called Jargon Finder.
- proactive
- What could this word possibly mean, other than that one is in favor of activity?
- literally
- Although wide misuse threatens to rob this word of any meaning, using "literally" as anything other than a synonym for "exactly" is incorrect.
- virtually
- almost or nearly.
- impact
- means strike with great force. Other than football or boxing, it should never be associated with any human activity. Stop using it to describe your social service program (unless you're going around punching out homeless people).
- impactful
- is not a real word. Stop using it!
