Then why seek grants?

Grant funding can be very helpful in providing seed money for new projects (the preference of most foundations), money for capacity development, or capital projects. Grant funding can also be used for general operating support, but sources of such funding are even more limited. Grant funding is an important part of the mix, and should not be ignored, but it is only part of the mix.
